This is the cover page to my zine! The zine is about a gem stone that brings people good luck. contrary to the hope diamond which is supposed to be cursed...which is one of the things i researched!

There is plenty of mystery that surrounds the beautiful and rare hope diamond. The legend is that anyone who owns it will be cursed with bad luck. The stories begin several hundred years ago when a man by the name of Tavernier while in india stole "a large blue diamond from the forehead of a statue of the hindu goddess Sita, according to legend for committing such an act Tavernier was torn to pieces by "wild dogs on a trip to russia" The diamond had ended up in the French royal family around 1668. There it lasted several generations it's last royal owner was Louis XVI who's queen was Marie Antoinette, they were both beheaded at the end of the french revolution, thier deaths were attributed to the curse of the blue diamond.The diamond was taken from the royal couple befor thier deaths when they were attempting to flee france. It was then placed in the Garde-meuble which was repeatedly robbed most of the crowned jewels were recovered however the blue diamond remained lost, until it 'resurfaced in 1823 and was owned by jeweler Daniel Eliason of London, and later bought by king George IV but "upon his death it was sold to pay off his debt." " In 1939 the diamond was owned by Phillip Hope, the Hope family is said to also have been "tainted by the diamonds curse" the hopes went bankrupt, The diamond lasted in thier family through several generations, and while it was possesed several deaths occured, finally because of "gambling and high spending Francis Hope requested from the court in 1898 for him to sell the Hope diamond (Francis was only granted access to the life interest on his grandmothers estate) his request was denied." Francis's siblings had denied him the selling of the diamond. "The hope diamond changed hands over the next several years ending with Pierre Cartier." Who sold the diamond to Evalyn Walsh Mclean. Mclean was warned about the diamonds curse, however she claimed " that whatever was considered bad luck actually turned out to be good luck for her." " A few months later Cartier arrived in the us and asked Mclean to keep the hope diamond for the weekend, Cartier hope that she would grow attached to it over the weekend, he was correct and she purchased the diamond." Mclean never removed the diamond from her neck she saw it as her good luck charm. However even she could not escape the curse. "Her first born son ,Vinson, died in a car crash when he was only nine, her daughter committed suicide at age twenty five and finally her husband was declared insane and confined to a mental institution until his death." After her death all her jewelry went up for sale to settle her debts, the hope diamond " was purchased by harry winston" Winston then donated the diamond to the Smithsonian Institue some say he donated it to rid himself of the curse but he said he donated it to begin a national jewelry collection. This is where the diamond remains for all to see.

"Take a look at any fashion or entertainment magazine and you'll see plenty of well -known celebrities with body piercings "(Wilkerson). Being able to "adorn"(wilkerson) ones self jewelry has bee a sign of wealth and glamour since "over 5,000 years ago"(Wilkerson). It dates back to ancient Egypt where "every well-to-do family wore earring. Some types of piercings were even restricted to the royal family, only the pharaoh himself was aloud to have a naval piercing"(Wilkerson). Also "in central and south america lip rings were worn for aesthetic reasons women with pierced lips were considered more attractive"(Wilkerson). And last but not least "men during the renaissance and elizabethan eras would have at least one earring if not more. large pearl drops and diamond studs were a great way to advertise your wealth and standing in the community"(Wilkerson). So through out history and in many different cultures jewelry has always been representative of wealth and glamour!

These shoes reminded me of jewelry cause they are an accessory. and the glass reminded me of jewelry cause its looks cut like a diamond.

I chose to use these colors because they were bright and rich colors and they reminded me of jewelry. I also made most of my logos diamond shaped since my topic is jewelry:)

The perfume bottle and the bag reminded me of diamonds and the beautiful woman reminds me of the beauty and uniqueness of jewelry the veil just added a bit of class to the woman's attire.

My final assignment is supposed to reflect the versatility of jewelry.

In the first image i just sharpened up the face behind the veil and in the second picture i played with the huge and saturation the curves and the brightness and contrast. i think it shows the versatility of jewelery i just like the ruby color of her face in contrast with the veil.

The flower reminded me of a picture frame i had photographed so i took the flower from the picture frame and stuck it next to the real flower. It reminded me of how perfect nature is and how nature is inspiration for all kinds of art. and the earrings in the fountain. I don't know I guess they were tear drop shaped so the reminded me of water?

My experience at Moore has been interesting, standing for six hours straight in a drawing class, and having a life drawing are all very new to me. Getting to know the city a little bit better, and meeting new people has been fun.
